Sub-Genre - Setting and Location

Setting and location

Setting/locations in crime films often follow the same conventions of the location that they are set, the reason for this is that it allows for the crimes that the films show will create a huge impact which will make the crime and the seriousness of it come clearer on the film.

Examples of where crime films often located:

·         Major towns/Cities – In films there is most of the time it will be set in this location, the reason for this is that it is a big area that if a crime happens it can make a massive impact which will mean it will affect a lot of people. For example, The Godfather which is in New York which in this film there is a lot of people killed and also set where it can make an impact.

·         Crowded Places –This can be normally used as it can cause crime to a lot of people which will mean that it effects people lives and can also cause a huge crime.

As in our film we have paired it with the horror genre, the following will show where normally horror/crime films would typically be:

·         Houses – The house is the base of where the victim and their family would be and this is significant to the film as may have clues or where the crime was committed. For our film, we will use this location.

·         Dark streets/Alleyways – These kinds of location can add suspense to the film, also it can be a location of where the murderer could commit the crime.
