Continuity homework
Continuity
Continuity is used to keep the audience focused on the
action in the shot, as well as maintaining continuous and clear narrative
throughout the action.
A scene should have a left-right relationship maintained,
with filming only taking place within the 180 degrees.
Shot-Reverse-Shot:
Shot reverse shot (or shot/counter-shot) is a film technique
where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen),
and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. A
shot reverse shot is usually used in shots containing dialogue/conversation
between two characters, and is usually shot at a medium close-up to convey the
characters’ emotions and facial expressions on camera, as the example shows in
the image adjacent:
Match on action (or cutting on action) is an editing
technique for continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot
portraying the action of the subject in the first shot.

Liam's Homework
Continuity
Continuity is used to
keep the audience focused on the action and maintain continuous and clear
narrative action.
180 Rule – The angle between any two consecutive shots should not exceed 180 in order to maintain spatial relationships between people and objects in any given sequence of shots. By using this it allows the audience to have a greater sense of location in the scene in terms of what may be off screen in some shots.

Shot reverse Shot – This is two shots that are edited
together that alternate characters, typically in a conversation situation.
Usually characters in one frame look left and in the following frame look right.
For example using medium close up to show the emotion of the people talking and
switching between the two showing one conversation but both people.

Match on action – This is an editing technique for continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot portraying the action of the subject in the first shot. This creates the impression of continuity with the action carrying through which will draw the viewer attention away from slight cutting or continuity issues.

Shot reverse shot
Shot reverse
shot is when shots alternate between two characters, usually in a conversation.
This allows the audience to see the facial expressions of characters as they
talk. The shot used is usually an over the shoulder shot.
The 180 degree line is a basic
guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and
another character or object within a scene. The imaginary line called the axis
connects the two characters and the camera is kept on one side of the axis for
every shot in the scene.

Gangster:
opening scene-
opening scene-
- 2 guys exchange drugs for money
- A guy is getting tortured for information
- the drug lord walks in and tells the people who are torturing the guy to stop, the guy falls on the floor breathing heavily.
- the drug lord says he is now working for them to assassinate people
- brainwash the guy to kill
- assassinates people who the drug lord tells him to.
Gita's Homework
Continuity- the maintenance of continuous action and self-consistent detail in the various scenes of a film or broadcast. This is a set of rules when making a film:
technical/physical continuity-
shot/ reverse shot- have multiple shots e.g. two people talking, you need to take different types of shots to make the conversation interesting, reverse shot may be behind someone so you can see the persons shoulder but the other persons face.
match in action- has to be continuous make sure no one can see the cuts that you have made. have a cut in action so you can see what the character is doing rather than cutting in the middle so you do not see what the person is doing. cutting an action across two cuts so the audience do not see the obvious cuts that you have made.
- acting continuity: saying the same lines in different shots.
- props continuity: if you are shooting a wide shot you have to keep everything the same but if you are shooting a close up you may want to move some things to it looks the same.
- costume continuity: taking photos of the actors before shooting so costumes can be kept the same.
- 180* line: placing the camera at the right side of the line, If two people are facing each other, a line must be drawn. This line usually runs straight down the middle between the two people, like so:
Once this line is in place, the camera can move anywhere providing it stays on the same side of the line once filming has begun. If the camera is switching between two faces during a conversation for example and then suddenly cuts to the other side of the line, then it will appear that both people are facing the same direction instead of looking at each other.
technical/physical continuity-
- have the same props and costumes in the shots to make sure everything is the same.
- jump cuts- crop out the unnecessary bits which may repeat. miss out the boring bits in the middle of the film.
- continuity is used to make the audience concentrate on the film.
- 180 degree line only film from one side as if you do not the places of the characters switch.
shot/ reverse shot- have multiple shots e.g. two people talking, you need to take different types of shots to make the conversation interesting, reverse shot may be behind someone so you can see the persons shoulder but the other persons face.
match in action- has to be continuous make sure no one can see the cuts that you have made. have a cut in action so you can see what the character is doing rather than cutting in the middle so you do not see what the person is doing. cutting an action across two cuts so the audience do not see the obvious cuts that you have made.

- Live news coverage of the murder investigation starting to happen is shown on TV
- The ghost of the murdered person comes back to haunt his sister
- The ghost tells his sister to watch out for the person who killed him

First two minutes
The murderer kills the boy by stabbing him many times all over his body, the boy drifts in and out of consciousness because of the loss of blood until he eventually dies. The murderer then stands over the dead body and looks at it, feeling proud of what has just happened. They then go and turn the record player on with some of their favourite upbeat music and dances along to it happily acting as if nothing has happened even though there is a dead person laid out in front of them and their hands are covered in blood. The person then proceeds to leave the building slamming the door and leaving the place a mess.
Shots plan
A P.O.V shot is shown, the victims eyes blink and a blur is seen until they shut and the victim is dead. A close up shot is shown of a person holding a knife covered in blood, heavy breathing is heard and their hand is slightly shaking. A close up is shown as a record player is turned on playing an upbeat song, the hand is covered in blood. A close up of the murderers feet is shown tapping to the beat of the music. A overhead longshot is shown of the dead body, laid out on a sheet covered in blood, close ups of the eyes and mouth are shown. A slam of a door is heard as the murderer leaves the building. The title of the film is shown.
