Common examples of camera work/cinematography used in crime films are:

Ø  Low key lighting – The lighting is kept low key to add to the mystery of 
the crime and keep the audience guessing at all times



Ø  Low angle shots – These type of shots may be used on the police and the criminal to represent power

Ø  High angle shots – These type of shots may be used on the victims to represent vulnerability

Common examples of editing used in crime films are:

Ø  Dissolve transitions – These may be used to dissolve someone in and out of the shot to play with the audience’s mind and make them second guess what they’re seeing which adds to the mystery of the film

Ø  Jump scares – These are used to scare the audience (more common in horror and crime films) sometimes they can be false and not reveal anything


Common examples of sounds/music used in crime films are:

Ø  Suspenseful music – This adds to the suspense and mystery of the film to keep the audience guessing

Ø  Suspensful sound effects – For example, a sound of footsteps with a black screen or a dark scene would build adrenaline for the audience
