Continuity
Continuity is used to keep the audience focused on the
action in the shot, as well as maintaining continuous and clear narrative
throughout the action.
A scene should have a left-right relationship maintained,
with filming only taking place within the 180 degrees.
Shot-Reverse-Shot:
Shot reverse shot (or shot/counter-shot) is a film technique
where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen),
and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. A
shot reverse shot is usually used in shots containing dialogue/conversation
between two characters, and is usually shot at a medium close-up to convey the
characters’ emotions and facial expressions on camera, as the example shows in
the image adjacent:
Match on action (or cutting on action) is an editing
technique for continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot
portraying the action of the subject in the first shot.
